Immune Infertility: The Impact of Immune Reactions on Human Infertility

This comprehensive overview of immune reactions inducing fertility disorders in both sexes first describes the nature and the function of sperm antigens which are capable to induce immune infertility as well as the methods to analyse and characterize these antigens. Secondly, the nature, the origin and induction of antisperm antibodies (ASA) in both sexes and the role of reproductive organs and their interaction with the immune system will be discussed. A large section of the book, which is most important for clinicians working in reproductive medicine, deals with the clinical impact of the immune reaction in reproductive medicine, including the methods of determination and the treatment in immune infertility. Closely related to immune infertility is the development of immune contraceptives which is also discussed.

Female Reproductive Health

When looking for a book on female reproductive health, you may find weighty tomes of 800 pages or more devoted to a single topic, for example: contraception, infertility, or menopause. Or you may find a general gynecology book that covers reproductive gynecology, but not in depth. Some books may be too theoretical and others too basic. You may find a piece of what you need in every book, but not everything you need in a single book. Until now.Female Reproductive Health provides a careful blend of basic science and clinical information. The authors answer everyday practical questions arising out of everyday practical issues. The book covers the entire range of reproductive health from anatomy and physiology, to sexually transmitted diseases, to hormone replacement therapy, to breast conditions, to sexual function and dysfunction. It contains tables that supply the statistics doctors need on risks/benefits, incidence/prevalence, success rates for assisted reproduction, and more. As an ob/gyn student, resident, or busy family doctor, you don’t have time to search through several different books for information. Written by a practitioner for fellow practitioners, the book gives you hands-on advice that you can apply immediately. Female Reproductive Health makes it easy to find the information you need when you need it.

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (Feb 2010 Edition)

More than 30 years after the birth of Louise Brown, the first child born as a result of in vitro fertilization, the practice of reproductive medicine has grown and evolved in a dramatic and profound fashion.
The advances made in the treatment of infertility have made the care of infertile patients more successful, rewarding, and exciting. However, management of the modern reproductive
endocrinology and infertility clinic has become very complex.
This book was developed to assist the practicing reproductive endocrinologist and/or laboratory director by providing an overview of relevant scientific, medical, and management issues in a single volume. While no book can cover everything associated with managing a reproductive endocrinology clinic and laboratory, we have enlisted experts from all relevant areas to provide concise, practical, and evidence based summaries of relevant topics. It is our hope that this resource will be of assistance to physicians and scientists engaged in this exciting field of medicine.

Integrative Women's Health (Weil Integrative Medicine Library) - Feb 2010 Edition

Women have made it clear that they desire a broader, integrative approach to their care. Here, for the first time, Integrative Women’s Health weaves together the best of conventional treatments with mind-body interventions, nutritional strategies, herbal therapies, dietary supplements, acupuncture, and manual medicine, providing clinicians with a roadmap for practicing comprehensive integrative care.

Presenting the best evidence in a concise, accessible format, and written exclusively by female clinicians, this text addresses many aspects of women’s health, including feminine perspectives on aging, spirituality and sexuality, specific recommendations for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV, headaches, multiple sclerosis, depression, anxiety, and cancer, as well as integrative approaches to premenstrual syndrome, pregnancy, menopause, fibroids, and endometriosis. Homeopathic, Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners provide insight into the ways in which these systems manage reproductive conditions.

As leading educators in integrative medicine, editors Dr. Maizes and Dr. Low Dog demonstrate how clinicians can implement their recommendations in practice, but they also go beyond practical care to examine how to motivate patients, enhance a health history, and understand the spiritual dimensions of healing.

Women's Health in Clinical Practice: A Handbook for Primary Care (Current Clinical Practice)

Mar 102010
Traditionally, women’s health has been synonymous with obstetrics and gynecology. With the exception of Family Medicine physicians who are trained in obstetric and gynecologic issues, most primary care physicians have received little training in reproductive health issues even though they care for women and girls. In recent years, there has been growing recognition that sex differences do exist between the organ systems of women and men, and research about male and female physiologic differences has bolstered the growing body of knowledge about sex differences. Women’s Health: A Handbook for Primary Care presents the most recent changes in current research and provides the reader with an easily accessible reference to common women’s health issues. The topics in this text range from health problems that largely affect only women, like cervical cancer and breast disease, to health problems that present differently in women than in men, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Chapters on polycystic ovary syndrome and oral health issues address health problems that bring together multiple organ systems including reproductive, cardiovascular and dental health. There are also useful chapters not typically found in primary care texts like eating disorders, interpersonal violence and sexual health. Women’s Health: A Handbook for Primary Care is succinct, well organized, and contains easily understood, practical information for the most common health problems seen in women. This volume is a valuable text for anyone who practices primary care medicine.
